UAE Pipeline Project Bypassing Hormuz Nears Completion
The United Arab Emirates' state oil giant ADNOC has made significant progress on a new pipeline project that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz, according to CEO Sultan Al Jaber. The West-East Pipeline project is now 50% complete and is expected to double the UAE's export capacity via the port of Fujairah by 2027.
The existing Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline (ADCOP), also known as the Habshan-Fujairah pipeline, can carry up to 1.8 million barrels per day. Al Jaber stated that some ADNOC facilities had been directly targeted and damaged during the recent strikes in February, but the assessment of damage is ongoing.
The UAE began building the new pipeline last year as a strategic move to reduce its dependence on the Strait of Hormuz, which has been a critical chokepoint for global oil supplies. The project aims to provide an alternative route for energy exports from the Gulf of Oman coast, outside the strait.
