The UAE has accelerated its Hormuz Bypass Strategy, with Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (Adnoc) exploring a plan to build an LNG plant in Fujairah, outside the Strait of Hormuz maritime chokepoint.

This would be Adnoc's third LNG plant and its first not exposed to transit through the strait. The project is driven by geopolitical realities facing Mideast Gulf exporters impacted by the US-Israeli war with Iran.

Fujairah is strategically located, allowing for connections between energy hubs in the west and less-developed eastern coastline. Adnoc Gas CFO Peter van Driel confirmed a high-level feasibility study is ongoing for the Fujairah LNG plant.
