Uganda Names Crude Oil Blend 'Pearl Sweet' Ahead of Commercial Production
Uganda has officially named its crude oil blend 'Pearl Sweet' to establish its identity on the global commodities market ahead of commercial production.
President Yoweri Museveni revealed that the name was chosen by his people, highlighting the country's high-quality resource.
The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) notes that the country's crude contains approximately 0.16 percent sulfur, classifying it as a 'sweet' crude, which is cheaper and easier to refine than high-sulfur 'sour' varieties.
By formally adopting the 'Pearl Sweet' brand, Uganda joins other African producers like Ghana, with its Jubilee blend, and Senegal, with Sangomar, in leveraging a distinct national identity to trade petroleum on the global stage.
