Uganda's Oil Pipeline Reaches 92% Completion Ahead of 2026 Deadline
The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project in Uganda has reached 92% completion, according to an inspection by Petroleum Authority of Uganda Executive Director Ernest Rubondo. The pipeline is expected to transport crude oil from the Tilenga and Kingfisher developments to Tanzania's Indian Ocean port of Tanga. The Tilenga project, operated by TotalEnergies SE, aims to produce up to 190,000 barrels per day from six fields, while Cnooc Ltd.'s Kingfisher project is expected to add 40,000 barrels daily.
The pipeline has created about 12,000 jobs and constructed 520 replacement houses for affected households. The EACOP Academy has also enrolled 141 students as part of efforts to prepare a local technical workforce for the petroleum industry.
The project is on track to receive its first crude oil before the end of 2026, with the Kabalega Sub-Power Station expected to begin supplying electricity by October 2026. The completion of the power station, upstream processing facilities, and the pipeline will determine whether Uganda meets its latest First Oil schedule.
