UK Condemns Russia's Ongoing Invasion of Ukraine, Calls for Ceasefire
Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine has crossed over into its second decade, with Ambassador Sarah MacIntosh calling out Russia for violating the UN Charter and Ukraine's sovereignty. The UK Permanent Representative to the UN emphasized that these actions do not change Ukraine's borders or rewrite her territorial integrity.
The conflict has taken a devastating toll on Ukrainian civilians, with nearly 17,000 killed and over 51,000 injured since February 2022. This includes 820 children who have lost their lives in the fighting.
Russia's aggression has not only resulted in significant loss of life but also disrupted global food supplies, with Ukraine accounting for a substantial portion of global corn and wheat exports before the invasion. Russia's strikes on Ukrainian ports and civilian shipping have further exacerbated the situation, contributing to rising food prices worldwide.
