The UK's energy price cap is set to increase by 4% in October 2026, according to Ofgem. This means that the average annual energy bill will rise from £1,663 to £1,723, a £60 increase.

Gareth Kloet, an energy expert at Go.Compare, notes that this increase is not unexpected, given the recent rise in natural gas prices.

The price cap change takes into account updated Typical Domestic Consumption Values (TDCVs), which estimate the amount of gas and electricity used by a typical household each year. The TDCVs have fallen 7% for electricity and 17% for gas due to lower average energy use across the UK.

Kloet advises consumers to look beyond the headline price cap figure when assessing their energy costs, as unit rates and standing charges are more consistent measures of what they'll actually pay.
