UK Family BBQs Hit Hard by Rising Costs and Trumpflation

A family barbecue in the UK has become an expensive affair due to rising costs. According to a new analysis, the price of a typical shopping list for a family BBQ has soared by 43% over the past five years.

A meal consisting of burgers, sausages, and corn on the cob for a family of four cost £14.28 from Tesco in 2021 and £12.69 from Waitrose. However, the same selection now costs £21.14 at Tesco and £17.41 at Waitrose.

The price increase has been partly blamed on 'Trumpflation', caused by former US President Donald Trump's war with Iran, which has sent global costs of food and fuel soaring.

The Liberal Democrats have called for a Good Food Bill to set long-term targets for food security, production, and affordability. They argue that this would give farmers the certainty to invest while protecting families from future price shocks.
