Two explosions were reported near an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway between Iran and Oman. The incident occurred on August 5, with the UKMTO stating that the master of the tanker heard two explosions while transiting through the strait.

No environmental damage or harm to the crew was reported, according to the UKMTO. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for global oil trade and has been a source of tension between Iran and other countries, including the US.

Iran's Foreign Affairs Ministry announced that they are in talks with Oman for joint management of the waterway. This comes as US President Donald Trump stated his preference for making a deal with Iran rather than resorting to military action, saying 'I'd rather make a deal because I don't want to affect 91 million people.'

The Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act has been advanced in the US Senate, reflecting bipartisan support. The bill aims to send a message about American resolve against authoritarian powers.
