Ukraine Grain Prices Plummet to Critical Levels

Ukraine's domestic grain prices have plummeted to alarming levels, according to Ivan Slobodyanik, head of the All-Ukrainian Congress of Farmers. The current price of about 5000 UAH per ton is far below normal market indicators, he emphasized.

This significant drop in domestic prices directly affects the incomes of producers and raises concerns for the survival of the agricultural sector. Slobodyanik pointed out that only around 30% of all grain grown in Ukraine goes for domestic consumption, with this share likely smaller due to demographic decline.

While a low price may be beneficial for consumers, it means losses for producers. The key issue now is not the price for end-consumers but the survival of small and medium-sized producers who are facing their toughest times in years.
