Ukraine Introduces Grain-Backed Loans for Farmers Amid Export Suspension
The Ukrainian government is working on an affordable financing program for farmers affected by the suspension of grain exports through the Greater Odesa ports. Taras Vysotskyi, Ukraine's Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, announced this plan to support farmers during the upcoming planting campaign.
The program allows farmers to secure loans against their harvested grain, preventing them from selling at economically unviable prices. The suspension of exports has created a significant oversupply on the domestic market, pushing procurement prices sharply lower.
Vysotskyi emphasized that key inputs for field operations remain available, with most seed produced domestically and crop protection products arriving via overland routes. However, if maritime exports are not restored by November, Ukraine could face a shortage of grain storage capacity.
