Ukraine Offers Expertise to Clean Up French Nuclear Test Sites in Algeria
Ukraine is looking to strengthen its ties with Algeria in various sectors, including agriculture and trade. Ukrainian Ambassador to Algeria Oleksandr Voronin revealed that his country exported 2.5 million tonnes of wheat to Algeria last year, while the total wheat imports are estimated at 9 million tonnes.
The ambassador highlighted the strength of relations between Algeria and Kyiv, recalling that Algeria was among the first countries to recognize Ukraine's independence in 1991. Voronin stressed that Ukraine is seeking to expand agricultural trade and investment with Algeria, with bilateral trade reaching $736 million in 2025.
However, the ongoing war has had a significant impact on wheat prices, which have tripled, according to the ambassador. Voronin called on Algeria to play a role in securing export routes and lifting the blockade affecting Ukraine's exports.
