Ukraine Seeks Moldova Rail Route Amid Port Disruptions

Ukraine is exploring an alternative grain export route through Moldova's rail network due to increased Russian attacks on Ukrainian shipping and port infrastructure. According to Reuters, Ukraine has asked Moldova for a reduced cargo transit tariff, specifically a 50% discount off the standard rate.

The proposed rail corridor would transport grain from Ukraine to the Romanian port of Constanța. Sources in both countries estimate that the corridor could carry 4.5 million tons annually, which is around 10% of Ukraine's total exports.

Agrarian Policy Minister Taras Vysotskyi told Reuters that the ministry has lowered its grain export forecast for the 2026-2027 season to 38-40 million tons due to the security situation.
