Ukraine Strikes Russian Black Sea Port City, Disrupts Grain Exports

A major Ukrainian attack on Russia's Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk has caused significant damage to warships at the naval base and disrupted grain exports, according to Russian and Ukrainian officials. The strikes killed at least two people, including an 8-year-old child, regional Gov. Veniamin Kondratyev said.

Ukraine's SBU security service described the attack as having 'strategic significance,' saying that Kyiv's forces hit the Novorossiysk naval base with drones and missiles. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that two frigates, a large landing ship, a corvette, and other vessels were hit.

The attack on grain terminals has raised fears of a disruption to global supplies, as Russia is the world's largest wheat exporter. Chicago wheat futures rose around 3 percent on Wednesday after the attack on Novorossiysk. Russia's Agriculture Ministry said it was working to redirect export flows to alternative routes.
