Russian attacks on civilian ships have severely impacted Ukraine's agricultural exports, with ports in the greater Odessa area handling as much as 90 percent of Ukraine's shipments paralyzed. To mitigate this, the Ukrainian government is exploring alternative routes by rail, road, and waterways, including a new export corridor through the Republic of Moldova.

Farmers are struggling to sell their crops due to the blockade, with over 28 million tons of grains and legumes harvested but unsalable. This has led to a growing shortage of capital for farmers, who need money to complete the current harvest and sow winter crops by the end of August.

Denis Marchuk, deputy chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, warned that the situation will worsen in coming weeks and months as later-harvested cereals and oilseeds join the already stored quantities. The corn harvest alone could reach 33 million tons, with a threat of up to ten million tons of storage capacity shortage in fall.
