Ukraine's Agricultural Exports Paralyzed by Russian Blockade
The ongoing Russian attacks on civilian ships in the Black Sea have severely impacted Ukraine's agricultural exports. In an effort to maintain exports, the Ukrainian government is exploring alternative transport routes by rail, road, and waterways.
However, experts warn that these alternatives cannot replace ports entirely. According to Denis Marchuk, deputy chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, a large part of Ukraine's grain harvest remains unsalable due to the blockade.
'Currently, we can hardly sell our products,' Marchuk said. 'The question arises as to what we will do because we need money, especially for the autumn sowing.'
This year's corn harvest alone could reach around 33 million tons, but there is a threat of a storage capacity shortage of up to ten million tons in the fall.
