Ukraine's Agricultural Exports Plummet Amid Port Blockades
Ukraine's agricultural exports have taken a significant hit due to port blockades, according to recent data from Finway. In August 2026, the country exported only 1.42 million tons of grain, oilseed crops, and their processed products - nearly three times less than its potential under favorable logistical conditions.
Speaking on the issue, Taras Vysotsky, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, noted that from August 1 to 26, 822 thousand tons of grain crops were exported. This accounts for just 21% of the country's potential demand during this period.
The majority of remaining exports consisted of oilseed crops, oil, and meal, with volumes meeting planned indicators. Vysotsky also highlighted the difficulties faced by farmers due to export restrictions and high transportation costs.
To support agricultural producers, the Ukrainian government and National Bank have implemented additional measures, including extending the term for returning foreign currency earnings from grain and oilseed crop exports. However, these efforts may not be enough to mitigate the impact of logistics issues on the autumn sowing campaign.
