Ukraine's Agricultural Exports Plunge Amid Port Blockades
Ukraine's agricultural exports suffered a significant decline in August due to ongoing port blockades. According to analytics firm Spike Brokers' weekly review, Ukraine shipped around 1.73 million tonnes of agricultural products abroad over 27 days in August, nearly half the amount exported in July (3.29 million tonnes). This represents a physical drop of 47.5% and a value loss of $1.06 billion, down 25.6% from July's $1.42 billion.
The biggest hit was corn exports, which collapsed by 84.3%, to just 190,700 tonnes in August compared to July. Wheat and barley exports also declined sharply, with wheat down 49.8% (486,600 tonnes) and barley down 74.5% (62,600 tonnes).
Rapeseed exports, however, saw a significant boom, reaching 255,200 tonnes in August compared to just 11,800 in July. Rapeseed oil shipments were also four-and-a-half times higher than the previous month, at 69,400 tonnes.
