Ukraine's Export Crisis Hits Grain Exports Hard
Ukraine's agricultural sector is facing significant challenges due to the ongoing export crisis. According to data from the first 26 days of August, Ukraine exported only 33% of its potential volume of agricultural products, with grains making up a large portion of this shortfall.
The country managed to ship about 21% of its potential grain exports abroad during this period, while oilseeds and other products accounted for around 40% of total exports. The main problem lies in the costly logistics and restrictions on maritime exports, which are hindering farmers' ability to export their crops.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food has forecast that farmers will reduce the area planted with winter wheat due to limited export opportunities and high logistics costs. While there may be some changes in winter barley plantings, oilseed production is expected to increase as these crops have a higher value per metric ton.
