Ukraine's Grain Exports Blocked, Prices Plummet Amid War Disruptions
The ongoing war in Ukraine has severely impacted the country's agricultural sector, crippling its ability to export crops and creating a bottleneck that threatens both farmers and global food supplies.
According to Leonid Kozachenko, head of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation, over 15 million metric tons of grain have been collected but cannot be exported due to the blockage, resulting in dramatically collapsed prices. The average farm-gate purchase price in Ukraine stands at just 8,000 hryvnias per ton.
The disruptions are worsening market conditions and cutting deeply into farmers' incomes, with estimated daily losses of $70 million. Kozachenko urgently called on the state to find immediate solutions to support the sector, warning that the outlook remains highly uncertain.
