Ukraine's Grain Exports Disrupted by Ongoing Russian Attacks on Black Sea Ports
Ukraine's grain export industry faces significant disruption due to ongoing Russian attacks on Black Sea ports. According to Deputy Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotskyi, alternative routes will not reach operational capacity before the end of August and can only replace about half of the shipping volume normally handled through these ports.
The attacks have intensified in recent days, with no commercial vessels entering the Odesa region's ports for nearly two weeks. Ukrainian officials reported 35 attacks on vessels inside ports, 22 attacks on ships at sea, and 67 strikes on port facilities during July alone.
Government estimates indicate that more than 30 million metric tons of grain and oilseeds could remain stranded unless maritime exports resume. The situation represents one of the most significant logistical challenges since Russia's full-scale invasion in February.
