Ukrainian Farmers Reduce Cereal Crop Areas Amid Weather Conditions
Ukrainian farmers have reduced the areas sown with major cereal crops due to various reasons, according to Andrii Kupchenko, Head of the Analytical Department at APK-Inform and FAO Ukraine Technical Expert on Markets and Trade.
The area under barley has decreased significantly due to weather conditions that caused crop losses. In contrast, peas have seen an increase in cultivation areas, albeit 20 thousand hectares smaller than last year's levels.
Kupchenko noted that the Chinese market has opened up for Ukrainian pea exports, contributing to the gradual increase in pea cultivation areas.
Other crops such as oats, buckwheat, and millet occupy minimal areas, with millet being the only exception showing growth this season. The total area under these crops for the 2026 harvest is 2.6% smaller than in 2025 and 26.8% lower than pre-war levels.
