Ukrainian Forces Target Grain Ships in Escalating Port Dispute
Ukrainian forces have carried out their first confirmed attacks on grain ships operating in Russian ports. This marks a significant escalation of tensions as Russia attempts to maintain its grain exports despite growing concerns about safety.
The four ships attacked on Tuesday morning, with another vessel targeted on Monday, were reportedly carrying wheat and barley from the Black Sea region. The Maltese-flagged Elina B was loaded with 56,000 metric tons of wheat in Novorossiysk before being struck, while the Necibe was hit by drones in Tuapse.
The Russian bulk carrier Victoria V, capable of carrying up to 7,000 metric tons of grain, was also targeted at the port of Novorossiysk. The vessel's cargo holds were damaged but it is unclear if there were any casualties or injuries.
