Ukrainian Grain Exports Plummet Amid August Decline
Ukraine's agricultural exports have taken a significant hit in August, plummeting by 40% compared to July. The total export figure for the month stood at around 2.15 million tonnes, down from 3.67 million tonnes in July.
The decline was largely driven by a reduction in grain shipments, which fell from 2.67 million tonnes in July to just 988,000 tonnes in August - a staggering 2.7 times decrease. This represents an export loss of around 1.68 million tonnes compared to the previous month.
Among grains, corn and barley saw the greatest decline. Corn exports amounted to 305,700 tonnes, down from 1.28 million tonnes in July - a fourfold decrease. Barley shipments, meanwhile, fell to 68,700 tonnes, also from 296,000 tonnes the previous month.
The only bright spot in an otherwise bleak export picture was oilseed exports, which increased by nearly four times to 329,500 tonnes in August. Rapeseed accounted for much of this growth, with its exports rising from 19,400 tonnes to 292,600 tonnes.
