Ukrainian Man Arrested for Alleged Role in Nord Stream Pipeline Explosions
A Ukrainian man wanted in Germany for his alleged role in the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions was arrested on a European warrant in Croatia, German prosecutors announced.
The suspect, identified only as Vladimir Z., is accused of being part of a group that planted explosives on the pipelines in the Baltic Sea near the Danish island of Bornholm. The undersea explosions damaged the pipelines, which were built to carry Russian natural gas to Germany, and added to tensions over the war in Ukraine.
The German prosecutors said Vladimir Z. is a 'trained scuba diver' who belonged to a group of people responsible for the sabotage. He was arrested in the Croatian seaside city of Pula and will be brought before an investigating judge at Germany's federal court of justice after his extradition.
