Uniper Locks In 20-Year LNG Deal with Canada's Ksi Lisims Project
Uniper has locked in a long-term LNG supply deal with Canada's proposed Ksi Lisims LNG project, securing 2 million tonnes per year (MMtpy) of liquefied natural gas for up to 20 years. This marks the first long-term LNG sales contract between a Canadian project and a European utility.
The agreement expands Uniper's portfolio while providing destination-flexible cargoes that can support European energy security. The Ksi Lisims LNG project, developed by Western LNG, Rockies LNG, and the Nisga'a Nation in British Columbia, plans to use hydroelectric power to operate its liquefaction process, significantly reducing carbon intensity.
First deliveries are expected to begin in 2032, with Uniper CEO Michael Lewis stating that diversification is a strategic necessity. Davis Thames, president of Western LNG, expressed excitement for the project's commercialization and potential to move into construction shortly.
