Uniper Powers Up Gas Supply and Data Center Plans
Uniper, a Düsseldorf-based utility, has made significant strides in securing its long-term energy supply chain through a freshly signed agreement with Norwegian energy giant Equinor. The contract guarantees more than 30 terawatt-hours of natural gas annually from 2027 through 2041, cementing gas as the company's earnings backbone.
The operational rebound in the first half of 2026 is evident in Uniper's financials, with adjusted EBITDA reaching €711 million and adjusted net income coming in at €388 million. The Greener Commodities division swung from a €296 million loss to a €260 million profit, aided by the absence of optimization-related headwinds.
Uniper plans to develop more than ten power plant sites across European data hubs to serve the AI economy, with three projects already in advanced development and one UK-based initiative completed. This ambitious strategy is expected to provide a second pillar alongside the traditional energy business, but execution speed and profitability remain open questions.
