An agreement between Germany-based Uniper and the proposed Ksi Lisims LNG project marks a significant step toward expanding Canada's natural gas exports beyond North America.

The landmark deal, signed in binding form, commits Uniper to purchasing two million tonnes of liquefied natural gas annually from the proposed facility for up to 20 years. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2032.

The agreement is a major milestone for Ksi Lisims LNG and represents Canada's first binding, long-term LNG supply deal with a European utility, according to the federal government.

While the project itself still requires final approval, this development signals growing international demand for B.C. natural gas and opens up new opportunities for producers in Northeast B.C.
