German utility Uniper has signed a 20-year contract to purchase liquefied natural gas from the Ksi Lisims project, a $30-billion facility planned for the northern British Columbia coast.

The deal is worth two million tonnes of LNG per year and marks the first major long-term LNG supply agreement between Canada and Germany. The first deliveries are expected in 2032.

Uniper CEO Michael Lewis said that this partnership will help diversify Europe's energy supply and strengthen resilience against future disruptions.
