Uniper Signs Major LNG Deal with Ksi Lisims LNG

A major long-term sale and purchase agreement has been signed between Ksi Lisims LNG and Uniper, a German energy company based in Dusseldorf. Under this deal, Uniper will purchase two million tonnes per year (Mtpa) of liquefied natural gas from the proposed floating facility north of Prince Rupert.

The project, which aims to transport gas from northeast B.C. via the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission pipeline, has received its environmental assessment certificate and a priority designation from the federal government's major projects office.

While still awaiting a final investment decision, this deal brings Uniper on board as one of several companies, including Shell, TotalÉnergies, and SEFE, that have committed to purchasing LNG from Ksi Lisims. With contracted capacity reaching 7 Mtpa out of the proposed 12 Mtpa total, this agreement could be a crucial step towards securing the project's future.

According to Davis Thames, president and CEO of Western LNG, 'Canada is naturally endowed with a world class natural gas resource... Paired with an abundant hydro resource, Ksi Lisims LNG will be one of the lowest emissions sources of LNG in the world.'
