US Accused of Striking Iranian Tanker Near Strategic Oil Hub
Iran has accused the United States of striking an Iranian tanker near Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf, sparking fresh concerns about escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that four U.S. missiles hit the tanker around six miles from the coast, but there were no reported casualties as crew members evacuated the vessel.
Kharg Island is Iran's main crude oil export terminal, a strategically important part of the country's energy infrastructure, and any confirmed U.S. strike would put additional pressure on Iran's already strained oil industry and economy.
