US and Iran Engage in Escalating Strikes on Oil Carriers and Bases
US and Iranian forces engaged in a series of strikes on September 8 and 9. According to CENTCOM, US forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers in the Gulf of Oman and near Kharg Island.
No American personnel were harmed in Iran's latest attacks. However, Jordan's military reported intercepting 18 out of approximately 20 ballistic missiles fired by Iran towards a US base in Jordan.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the US would continue to take action against Iranian aggression, stating 'Iran continues to try to hit U.S. naval ships, and for every time they do that or try to do that, they’re going to lose tankers.'
The strikes mark a significant escalation in tensions between the two countries.
