US and Iran Engage in Military Exchanges Over Critical Shipping Route
The United States and Iran have been engaged in a series of military exchanges over the past month. The latest incident occurred on August 30, when U.S. forces struck two Iranian rocket launchers loaded with sea mines on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
The attack was carried out after the U.S. military detected that Iran was preparing to distribute sea mines in the strait, which is a critical shipping route for global oil supplies. The U.S. strike destroyed the technical and repair infrastructure, as well as the enemy fighter deployment sites, according to Iranian military forces.
Iran retaliated by launching drones at U.S. military bases in Jordan, but the U.S. air defense systems intercepted all but one of the missiles launched, which was allowed to pass through after it was determined that it would not strike anything significant.
