The Strait of Hormuz has become a focal point in the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, with both sides engaging in military exchanges.

According to CENTCOM, the US carried out a 'limited, precise' strike against minelaying forces of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Sunday. The units posed an imminent threat to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which carries about one-fifth of global crude oil and gas shipments under normal conditions.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed that a supertanker had been hit by two naval mines in the southern part of the strait, causing a fire and bringing the vessel to a halt. However, the US military denied this claim.

In a separate development, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran continued to favor a negotiated settlement, but did not specify any conditions for this.
