US and Saudi Arabia Strike Back at Iranian-Backed Militias in Iraq
The United States and Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes against Iranian-backed militias in Iraq on July 29, 2026, following a series of attacks attributed to Iran. According to Washington, Tehran launched a missile attack late Tuesday evening, but the missiles were successfully neutralized.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had ordered militias loyal to it to target U.S. forces and Saudi energy infrastructure. The IRGC also announced that it had hit three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. Central Command stated, "The IRGC and its terrorist proxies must cease these attacks to avoid further U.S. military responses."
Oil prices rose early Wednesday morning over concerns that the escalation of the conflict.
