US Blasts Iran's 'Patchwork' Radar System, Says Strait Control Eludes Tehran
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that Iran's efforts to control the Strait of Hormuz are futile. He described their radar system as a 'patchwork tinker toy erector set' and stated that Iran is in a 'death spiral'.
Bessent's comments came after the US military launched a new wave of strikes against Iranian targets, including air-defense systems, radar sites, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities, and communications facilities.
The dispute over control of the Strait has significant implications for global oil markets, as it carries roughly one-fifth of global oil consumption. Shipping through the waterway has fallen dramatically during the conflict, although some traffic has resumed.
Bessent also stated that Washington is imposing additional sanctions on Iranian financial institutions, potentially on a weekly basis, as part of its campaign to economically isolate Tehran.
