US Blockade Brings Iranian Oil Sales to Standstill at Kharg Island
The US naval blockade on Iranian ports has brought Tehran's crude oil sales to a halt, according to recent shipping and satellite data. No tankers have loaded at Kharg Island, Iran's main export terminal, for at least a week.
Operations at the vital oil industry site halted on July 31, as Kpler and Energy Aspects intelligence providers reported. Satellite images revealed all three berths on the island had been empty for an extended period of time.
Richard Bronze, head of geopolitics at Energy Aspects, stated that 'the blockade is effective' but added that the loss of export revenue may not put immediate pressure on Tehran to compromise in negotiations with the United States.
Iran continues to receive revenue from cargoes left during the ceasefire and now reaching customers in Asia. However, Bronze noted that this source of revenue will soon come to a halt as well.
