US-Canada Energy Trade Sees Spike in Value on Higher Gas Prices
The US-Canada energy trade experienced a significant increase in value last year, driven primarily by higher natural gas prices and increased trade volumes. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the volume of U.S. natural gas imports from Canada averaged 8.6 billion cubic feet per day in 2025, up 1% from the previous year.
The value of those imports rose 52%, with US natural gas exports to Canada increasing by 4% to 2.8 billion cubic feet per day and the value of exports rising 77% to $2.6 billion.
The New England Clean Energy Connect transmission line has the potential to increase U.S. electricity imports from Canada going forward, the agency noted.
