US Corn Yields in Illinois, Western Iowa Trail Year-Ago Levels

The annual Pro Farmer crop tour has been assessing the yield prospects of top U.S. grain-producing states, and the results are in for Illinois and western Iowa.

Corn yield prospects in Illinois were found to be down from last year and the three-year average, while soybean pod counts were down from last year but above the three-year average.

In western Iowa, corn yield potential and soybean pod counts were both down from last year, but near or above the three-year averages for both crops.

Farmers in the region seem philosophical about the more modest prospects this year, with some expecting a 'very good crop' despite lower yields.
