US Cracks Down on Iran with Sweeping Sanctions
The Trump administration has escalated its sanctions campaign against Iran, targeting various sectors and industries in an effort to isolate the country from the global economy.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced new penalties that include sanctions on digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. The US government also imposed restrictions on more than 60 entities, individuals, and vessels it claims have aided Iran in generating oil revenue, acquiring nuclear and missile technology, and conducting cyber operations.
Bessent stated that countries and companies will be given individual deadlines to cease their activities related to Iran, but declined to specify the exact dates. He warned that the US would swiftly take action against those who fail to comply with these demands.
