US Crude Throughput Hits Record High Amid Hormuz Tensions
The Strait of Hormuz has seen a record-breaking 17 million barrels of oil pass through it in a single day, according to US Energy Secretary Chris Wright. This figure surpasses previous records since the start of Washington's military offensive against Iran at the end of February.
Wright stated that on Monday, 'we recorded a record since the conflict began, more than 17 million barrels of oil transited through the Strait of Hormuz on ships.' He added that if alternative export pipelines are included, the amount exceeds what was leaving the region before the conflict.
The US official claimed that Tehran's tactic consists of 'holding the world hostage to the economy,' but argued that it would not be achieving its purpose due to the intervention of the US military in the area. He stated, 'They are causing some problems, but they are losing that leverage.'
