US Denies Role in Redirecting Qatari LNG Tanker
The US has denied any involvement in redirecting a Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker, Al Areesh, that was initially headed to Pakistan. The ship had been idling in the Persian Gulf since loading at Qatar's Ras Laffan export terminal in early July and transited the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday with its transponders switched back on, signaling Pakistan as its destination.
The US made this clarification after reports emerged that it may have played a role in redirecting the tanker. However, the country has stated that it had no involvement in the decision-making process.
The Al Areesh's journey is significant as it marks the first Qatari LNG shipment to transit the Strait of Hormuz in over three weeks.
