US Destroys Five Iranian Oil Tankers Amid Escalating Tensions
The US military has destroyed five Iranian oil tankers in response to missile attacks on its warships, escalating tensions between the two countries. The strikes are part of a dual economic and military approach by President Donald Trump as he struggles to bring an end to the war.
According to the U.S. Central Command, the tankers were destroyed after the Revolutionary Guards targeted a Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice over the past two days. No American personnel were harmed in the attempted Iranian attacks.
The crews of the five vessels were told to abandon ship before the attacks, which took place in the Gulf of Oman and near Kharg Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state television reported that US forces attacked Iranian oil tankers near the southern port of Jask and near Kharg Island. The U.S. military also destroyed a tanker located near Kharg Island, which is a major oil shipping hub.
