US Destroys Five Iranian Oil Tankers Amid Escalating Tensions
The US military has destroyed five Iranian oil tankers in response to recent Iranian missile attacks on a US warship. The attack comes just three days after the US destroyed three Iranian oil tankers following Iran's Revolutionary Guards trying to attack a US aircraft carrier and destroyer.
The US Central Command said the crews of the five vessels were told to abandon ship before the attacks. The tankers destroyed were the Kivik, Charminar, Horizon 1, Riesco in the Gulf of Oman, and Derya near Kharg Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy warned crews of oil tankers near ports in Kuwait and Bahrain to leave their vessels immediately due to the risk of US attacks. The move is part of a dual economic and military approach by President Donald Trump as he tries to bring an end to the six-month-old war with Tehran.
