US Destroys Five Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for Missile Attacks on Warship
The US military has destroyed five Iranian oil tankers in response to missile attacks on a US Navy warship. The attack occurred in the Gulf of Oman, where the IRGC had launched ballistic missiles at the warship over the past two days.
According to CENTCOM, the US forces struck the M/T Kaviz, M/T Charminar, M/T Horizon 1 and M/T Riesco in the Gulf of Oman, as well as the M/T Derya near Iran's Kharg Island. The tankers were rendered inoperable after the attack.
The US military claimed that Iran uses these tankers as part of a multibillion-dollar shadow network to fund the IRGC and its regional proxies.
This incident follows previous attempts by Iran to attack US Navy warships, including an attempt on September 5 to destroy three Iranian crude-oil carriers. CENTCOM said that all such attempts have failed.
