US Destroys Iranian Oil Tankers After Attack on American Warships
The US military responded to an attack by Iran on American warships by destroying three Iranian oil tankers. According to Centcom, the US Central Command, the tankers were part of a multibillion-dollar shadow network used to fund the IRGC and its regional proxies.
The strikes came after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched ballistic missiles at two American warships, an aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer. The US military said it evaded what it called multiple unprovoked attacks before retaliating against the tankers.
No US personnel were harmed in the attack. Iranian state television confirmed that four US missiles struck a tanker roughly six miles from Kharg Island, which has been targeted multiple times since fighting began.
