US Destroys Iranian Oil Tankers Amid Escalating Tensions

The United States military destroyed five Iranian oil tankers in response to recent attempts by Iran's Revolutionary Guard to attack US warships with ballistic missiles. The strike was confirmed by CENTCOM, which stated that the ships were part of Iran's shadow fleet used to export oil and generate revenue for the regime.

In retaliation, Iran launched 18 missiles at a military base in Jordan, which hosts US forces. However, Jordanian air defense systems intercepted all but two of the missiles, with no reports of casualties or damage.

The price of Brent crude, the international benchmark for oil, surged to $100 per barrel on Wednesday morning, its highest level since late July, as tensions between the US and Iran escalated.
