US Destroys Iranian Oil Tankers as War Escalates
The US military has destroyed five Iranian oil tankers in response to attacks on its warships. The strikes come as part of a dual economic and military approach by President Donald Trump to end the more than 6-month-old war.
The latest attacks are believed to have been launched from the Gulf of Oman, where three Iranian tankers were destroyed by US forces on Saturday. The US Central Command said it had no information to offer on the Jordanian military's claim that its air defense systems intercepted 18 ballistic missiles launched toward its territory.
The Trump administration has imposed sanctions on additional elements of Iran's aviation industry, targeting more than two dozen commercial and private airlines as well as foreign cargo service providers. The move aims to isolate Tehran from its remaining trading partners.
