US Destroys Three Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for Middle East Attacks
The United States military has taken action against Iranian oil tankers in response to recent attacks on ships in the Middle East. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had destroyed three Iranian oil tankers, including M/T Downy and M/T Stark 1, which were permanently disabled off the coast of Kharg Island.
The destruction of the oil tankers was a direct response to Iran's attempts to strike US ships with ballistic missiles. CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper stated that 'Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost - taking out three of yours.'
The attacks on the oil tankers have been condemned by Iran's Foreign Ministry, who called them a war crime. The consequences for continued US aggression would rest with Washington and its allies.
