US Destroys Three Oil Tankers Linked to Iran's IRGC
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on September 5 that it had struck and destroyed three oil tankers linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The vessels, M/T Downy, M/T Stark 1, and M/T Kylo, were targeted in the Gulf of Oman.
The IRGC claimed that it launched ballistic missiles at a US aircraft carrier and Navy destroyer on September 6, stating that they had sustained damage and feared further attacks. The US military said that the two warships evaded 'multiple unprovoked Iranian attacks' while patrolling in the region.
The US Central Command stated that after the failed attacks, CENTCOM permanently disabled M/T Downy off the coast of Kharg Island and M/T Stark 1 near Jask. American forces also completely destroyed the unladen crude oil carrier M/T Kylo in the Gulf of Oman.
