US Diesel Prices Break Through $6 Per Gallon Threshold
US diesel prices have broken through the $6-per-gallon threshold for the first time in history, reaching an average of $6.0556 per gallon on September 11.
This surge comes as crude oil prices exceed $100 per barrel, with Brent crude futures reaching an intraday high of $108.68 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) trading at $103.45 per barrel.
The record rise in diesel prices is a concern for the US economy, as it underpins the foundation of the nation's economy, powering heavy-duty trucks, agricultural machinery, construction equipment, power generation, and home heating.
Analysts believe that if prices continue to rise, transportation, construction, and agricultural costs will increase, ultimately being passed through to food and consumer goods prices.
